Educational project
The goal of the Metalquimia Foundation is to foment, promote, incentivise, sponsor and carry out activities that favour creativity and innovation (Creativation) in the different business, social, cultural, scientific-technological and educational areas of society.
In this respect, the Metalquimia Foundation has assumed as its own the pedagogical project of the Jove Orquestra de les Comarques Gironines because it considers it a clear commitment for the future, with the goal of establishing, in the medium and long term, a solid mechanism of permanent connection between music schools in all over the province of Girona. This will permit the following:
- Offer all intermediate level students in the music schools and conservatories of Girona the opportunity to receive the highest quality orchestral training from internationally renowned teachers who are members of the best European orchestras.
- Promote the establishment of a solid music network for work in the province of Girona, through the interconnection of all the intermediate and advanced level music schools in Catalonia.
- Offer concerts in symphonic formats in the province of Girona.
- Involve students' families to also consolidate a sociocultural network
Dissemination of music as a tool for integration
Since 2009, the Jove Orquestra de les Comarques Gironines has been involved in education in the province of Girona, carrying out teaching activities that draw on the work of the JOCG itself and later through the Simfònica de Cobla i Corda de Catalunya. These activities are offered at all levels, from primary school to university courses for older adults.
The main goal is to bring music closer to the educational community in terms of cultural integration, and at the same time familiarise the members of this community with the venues where these musical activities takes place, the concert halls, thereby fostering the loyalty of the public of the future.
Integration activities have also been carried out with groups that, for various reasons, find it more difficult to access symphonic music.
Furthermore, the work with the Jove Orquestra de les Comarques Gironines provides a basis to give young students from the province of Girona the opportunity to participate as listeners during the courses and thus get to know first hand how an orchestra tackles the preparation of works from the symphonic repertoire.
It is important to highlight the close collaboration established with the management team of Girona Provincial Council’s Isaac Albéniz Music Conservatory.
Funding and grants for musical talent
The Jove Orquestra de les Comarques Gironines project is funded by the contributions of Girona City Council, Girona Provincial Council and the Metalquimia Foundation, together with a co-payment made by the participants.
The economic crisis has meant that many families at risk of exclusion cannot afford to pay the teaching fees of the Jove Orquestra de les Comarques Gironines. For this reason, in 2010 the organization decided to introduce a system of grants to make sure that no young music students were excluded from the project for financial reasons.
